CBS producer Robert Joel Halderman pled guilty yesterday to trying to extort two-million dollars from David Letterman.
In the plea deal, Halderman, a producer for 48 Hours, will serve six months in jail, be placed on probation for five years, perform a thousand hours of community service and give up his right to an appeal.
Halderman told the judge, "In September of 2009, I attempted to extort two-million dollars from David Letterman by threatening to disclose personal and private information about him, whether true or false."
Halderman's extortion attempt prompted Letterman to admit on air LAST October that he had affairs with staff members.
