Guardian ad Litem Program A Guardian ad Litem is a volunteer who helps to reunify a child with parents or adoption or foster care, whichever is the end result for the child. No child should have to go through the child welfare process alone. These children are ones who have been taken from their parents due to neglect, abuse or abandonment. In Alachua County there are only 5 full time state employees to they rely on the Guardian ad Litems to be there for the children. As a Guardian ad Litem you will be the child's advocate. For 6-10 hours a month you will give the extra attention to one special child that the overburdened state agencies could not give them. You will represent the best interest of the child and report progress and recomendations to the court about the family. Volunteers are everyday people and do not have to have any legal background. The agency provides 30 hours of training. The next trainings will begin on July 30th and September 24th. Help make sure a child is not forgotten or lost in the system.
